Any ideas on this
My son is just starting to ride a 20inch wheel bike with gears. I've purchased some continental semi slicks to go on it. However I can't make them sit correctly and they keep making egg shapes. Both the old tyre and new ones are 406. Wheels are standard alloy kids bolt on shekels not BMX.

I'm lost on this as I've been fixing bikes for years- road mountain and kids . Never had this problem before.

Help appreciated.

In reply to PGD:

is it the correct size inner for the tyre/rim?

I usually inflate the tyre with the wheel lying on its side, and for a new tyre sometimes i parly inflate then bash the tyre all the way around to get it to seat, then continue inflating.

Buckled rim? I had this with conti's on my mountain bike. Had to re-seat them mid-ride. Later found I had a buckled rim. It was only 5mm or so, but that was enough to lift the tyre from it's seat on one side.

Finally fixed. I had to put washing up liquid between tyre and rim then over inflate . Tyre started popping into correct position.
Never had this problem before and am still a bit confused by it.
