I have a copy of Lightroom 2. What benefits would I get if I upgraded to the latest version?

I have noticed that you can convert sideshows to DVD and this sounds like a good idea, but I'd need more before I buy a copy. I don't trust hunting for naughty copies and getting viruses.

You will be able to upload directly to facebook and flickr
You will have much better noise reduction.
Shadow recovery has greatly improved. You can bring out detail in a far more natural way.

I've just downloaded LR 5 where I'm experimenting with the 30 day trial but I think I have a probem.

At the moment I've found a plug in for doing Time-lapse at 24fps and when I render the project the first second the movie is in perfect focus but sadly the rest is out of focus. Is this because I am using the 30 day trial and if I buy the full license then the movie will be pin-sharp all the way through?

I don't want to fork out £80 if the problem remains.

What Dan said, plus

Local adjustments - you'll never have to use PS layers again
Google Map integration
Photobooks via Blurb - Brilliant
RAW conversion - overall improvements
Lens/perspective correction
Imports video files
Print module much better
Overall a more refined program. But still needs improving.

I don't think Adobe cripples the trial, so its a probably a problem with the plugin.

Quite a few youtubes and other tutorials point to this plugin.
http://lrbplugins.com/shop/presets/lrb-timelapse-presetstemplates/

The plugin works for the first second, after that, everything is out of focus.

It would seem that the fault is with the plug-in and LR 5. A bit of googling has explained that LR 5 has changed the way it renders video.

I was only going to upgrade if the Time Lapse part worked. And I had my credit card all set too.

Its really worth the upgrade anyway

Did you also look at PowDir-12 Ultra?

Not yet. I tried to work with The free trials of Adobe Elements and LT 5. I may give Elements another bash today, but I found it complicated.

Do you have PowDir 12 and if so, what is the smallest time frame you can get?

I need 0.03 or 0.04 to allow 24 frames a second. My PowDir 8 only does 0.1 which gives 10 frames a second.

So far Window's freebee Movie Maker does 0.03 but its quite basic and occasionally throws a strop with a few thousand images.

I'll boot it up and see for you.

If PowDir 12 can do 0.03 per frame then I will be one happy bunnie.

I would very much like to take your offer up on trying 48 test shots which I have now dropped into flickr. Don't know how you'll get them off but if there are any problems, would dropbox help.

Cheers very muchly

I would just like to give a big public, 'Thank you', to ChrisJD.

Looks like I'll be buying some software after all, but it will be Power Director 12.

I did have a play with Lightroom 5 yesterday and it does look good, but my pennies are tight and I don't like acquiring pirated stuff any more for fear of Trojans and the like, which means I can only choose one.

Thanks everybody for your help and advice.
