Any ideas why email sent to my gmail account comes up on my iPhone like a text message? I have the gmail app, but I am logged out of it?? I find it annoying and would prefer to turn it off!

is it imessage? If so here is how to add an email, suspect you can reverse it.

No, it's gmail...and it only comes up with email messages sent to the gmail account. Emails sent to my .mac account don't flash up as "texts"

Try turning your Gmail notifications off.

Settings > Notification Center > Gmail

Ah, that might be the one...is Notification Centre new, as this never happened before (just upgraded to iPhone 5)

Thanks for the help

In reply to Nic:

You were able to toggle notifications on the 3&4 (possibly earlier). Some are useful to leave on - like Whatsapp, others just spam you.

Notification Centre has been round a while, but newer versions of apps seem to be getting better at taking it over by default....
