Hi all looking to Climb the Matterhorn via the Hornli Ridge in 2015 with a group of about 6 all of good climbing ability.

Just after some tips or useful information from people who have done it please.

any information regarding travel, accommodation, kit, problems and things to avoid, anything at all would be greatly received

Set off first, or last. First to avoid the stonefall kicked down by parties above, or last to avoid Guides frontpointing up your rucksack.

There's only two or three pitches that should be pitched, you need to climb happily together for the rest.

Don't plan to use the Solvay, they come looking for those that do and charge you heavily for it.

Get well acclimatised.
Set off with guided teams - it makes route-finding easy.
Climb as pairs and do not try and keep together as it will slow you down.

The Hornli Ridge is very conditions dependant and is often out of condition for weeks at a time in the summer if it is snow covered. Have a lot of other objectives in the area that are less conditions dependant and don't just sit around getting frustrated waiting for the Hornli ridge to come into condition.
