My mate finally wants to learn to lead climb.

What crags easily accessible to Ambleside area are good to teach gear placement without it being too daunting?

Also, which crags are good for teaching abseiling?

Cheers,

Black Crag (NY274037) and Long Scar (NY272036), roughly 20 mins from the top of Wrynose Pass, single pitch, loads of gear, nice rough rock and surprisingly sheltered for high crags.

There's a good place near Kirkby Lonsdale. It's called Hutton Roof.

It's where I did some when I was a young kid.

Not been there for a while so not sure whether it has places for gear placement, but worth a look on here to see if it is.
