to avoid at least some of the crowds and still have decent weather?

I'm presume early July or Early September is my best bet is that right?

Second half of August is quieter too. Late summer you do run the risk of snow bridges collapsing and increased rockfall. In to September you run the risk of colder more snowy conditions ( which you may or may not want), this snow may complicate the glacier crossings further.
