Simple question, your best climbing purchase.cheap or expensive.Mine has to be my mammut extreme nupste pants.

In reply to blackcat:

Montane extreme smock
Petzl Meteor 3
Trango Cinch
Montane Torque 40

They all work exactly like they should!

Down Jacket and beanie combo, climb 5 grades harder now! lol.

Wild country super light rocks are a current favourite. You can't believe how many placements they fit in really well without the faff of RPs or badly seated normal nuts. I didn't know there was a gap in my rack until I crag swagged the red one and used it on every route after whilst on Lundy.
Limestone and granite - awesome! Though the second isn't so keen as they don't wriggle out so easy, but that's not really my problem when on lead.

BD lid - so much more comfortable and unrestrictive than my old Grivel salamander that I now wear a lid by choice far more often, which has to be a good thing?

In reply to blackcat:

a bit of shoe lace to tie between krab and nut Prodder.

it stops the Pointy sharp bit being so Painfully stabby on my legs.

I thought it was 'best climbing purchases' not 'all climbing purchases'

First time I've ever been called a sport climber though. When I started climbing there was just climbing. If you said sport or trad climbing no one would have known what you were on about.

In reply to broken spectre:Nice tip

In reply to blackcat:

Spectre 2 quickdraws... much better than the second hand solid gates (from the 80's no doubt) that I had before.

Because it has saved my bacon in tight spots where nothing else worked... my Moses Tomahawk (beak)

In reply to blackcat:

I'm relatively new to climbing (less than a year of experience), but definitely a BD Gridlock belay carabiner.
 Fraser 25 Apr 2014
In reply to blackcat:

Rab Generator smock.
OP blackcat 25 Apr 2014
In reply to PPP:Is that the magnet one, looks a cool bit of kit.

 PPP 25 Apr 2014
In reply to blackcat:

No, it's a screwgate version. Black Diamond Magnetron GridLock is the one you are talking about. I was more impressed about the smoothness and the fact that it is impossible to cross-load the carabiner.

I've been a big fan of the size 11 wallnut ever since it held my first trad fall (4m cheesegrating down a granite slab).

ATC guide. Has taken me all the way from learning to top rope to bringing up two seconds on multipitch things.

Though, a BD rocklock magnetron is the coolest purchase.
 BnB 26 Apr 2014
In reply to blackcat:

BD Vapour helmet. Expensive but I never know I'm wearing it (except when I bump my head!). I invariably find it's still on when I get back to the car. Now that's comfort.
In reply to blackcat:

Arc'terx atom LT hoody. It's just the most perfect item of hill clothing i've ever bought - warm and windproof but not sweaty, packs down absolutely tiny...and it's great to wear off the hill in Glasgow too.

Also electric blue self-amalgamating tape from the DIY shop round the corner to grip up my ice-axes - cheap, effective, doesn't cover your tools in adhesive and looks COOL.
