Maybe not brilliant, but terrible to start with and worse with recent knowledge of the singers private life.

Jan Terri is so excrutiatingly, painfully awful that I simply can't NOT watch some of her stuff.

I even think these may be genuine

"Excuse my christmas"

"You're the only thing that matters"
youtube.com/watch?v=OE2l6CPna4M&

And another one I hadn't seen until I looked for the first two...
"Journey to Mars"

She kinda looks like Winston Churchill in drag, which adds to the fascination.

I haven't looked at the youtubes, but can I mention Bowies Laughing Gnome here?

In reply to Tim Chappell:

First single I ever bought, still holds up, would be a great Eurovision entry had the bros not come from Utah.

That's not terrible at all, just a great pop song.

In reply to Jim C:

Mike Leander knew how to write a pop song. Unfortunately he was writing them for a pervert

Which, Alice? or Bill Nighy? In the case of Alice, I'm on the cusp of agreeing with you about that.

In reply to Tim Chappell:

Alice, Alice, WTF is Alice?
 Mr Lopez 18 May 2014
In reply to sbc_10:

I really like that. Awesome tune!
 Mr Lopez 18 May 2014

Yes, it is by far and far the pinnacle of their career.
Love some of those orange gusseted flares. They would make a groover out of the worst of us.
In reply to ThunderCat:

Wow! That really is bad! Never heard of her before. Who buys such stuff!

In reply to aln:
I think I might have actually spent my pocket money on some of GG singles in the 70's .
I must check the next time I come across my vinyl collection in the attic .

My wife's collection is up there too, David Cassidy featured a lot if I recall correctly.
I remember I used to have to pretend I did not mind listening to him (and the partridge family .)

The things you do for love !!
Tim Chappell 18 May 2014
In reply to Tim Chappell:
There is, of course, the Goodies' version of the Trogs' Wild Thing... a true classic of the so-terrible-it's-good genre.

I would google the youtube clip, but I'm currently listening to music that is brilliant because it's brilliant, namely Savage Earth Heart by the Waterboys, so I'll leave that to you, gentle readers

Oh all right then, here you go

Come on, though, we DO know who Alice is... we all have an Alice in our past. Don't we? I certainly do. More than one, actually

The guy's turned out to be a disgusting piece of sh1t but it was still great pop music.

10cc. That's another story.

In reply to Enty:

There is actually a truly great song about that inaccessible lady in the past who never gave you anything like a chance...

"So now I'm going back again
I got to get to her somehow
all the people we used to know
they're an illusion to me now
some are mathematicians
some are carpenters' wives
I don't know how it all got started
I don't know what they do with their lives..."

On the Old Grey Whistle Test last night, there was an interesting chap called Captain Beefheart.

This rather rabid looking gentleman spent the entirety of his song making murderous lunges at the camera.

His song appeared to be terrible ,because it was terrible.

##whispers## there's bound to be some old fu#kers on here who think he was great.

And yet I am reliably informed that he used to be The Business.
Tim Chappell 18 May 2014
On the same theme of the Hopeless Crush That Never Stood A Chance But Haunts You For Decades there is also, of course,

She told me that one day we would meet up again
and things would be different the next time we wed
if I only coulda hung on and just been her friend
I still can't remember all the best things she said...

Howsomever, I appear to be hijacking my own thread.

I'm an old f*cker and I think Captain Beefheart made a load of really awful unpleasant music

Well I think Big Eye'd Beans From Venus could probably end this thread based on Tim's original question. It's classic.
