Well as you can get Dads Army now, my favourite would be The Beverly Hillbillies, caught one a couple of years ago and the humour was still brilliant.

I'd love for all the george smiley stuff to be up there, and house of cards (though both are freely available elsewhere *coughs*). I'd also love for every episode of natural world and horizon to be viewable.

In reply to Al Evans:

The original Edge of Darkness.
Twin Peaks (Bonkers, but terrified me).
Hill Street Blues (is this ever repeated on any of the gazillion channels available?)
Tales of the Gold Monkey (a one series wonder that I loved aged about 10)

In reply to Al Evans:

I would love to see the original versions of 'The Likely Lads', not 'Whatever happened to the likely lads' as they have been repeated many times.

Bought both on DVD, well worth the cost, (cheap as chips actually!)

The Callan series and The Lotus Eaters. Remember watching both as a bairn and would love to see them again (though would also be afraid they didn't age well).

You can watch Hill Street Blues on 4 OD and Dan J Travanti currently appears in the excellent "Boss" on More 4

The Water Margin. japanese swords and warlords drama featuring the evil Kao Chu and the robin hood-alikes of the Water Margin. "Do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not turn into a dragon? So may one just man become an army..." fabulous stuff.

I'd like to see Northern Exposure again, and though I can barely remember anything about it, Sapphire and Steel.

The Water Margin - I have vivid memories of the opening titles, and general confusion over the plot - I wasn't very old at the time. Monkey was more my level...

It did look cool though.

I've watched loads of old series thanks to being a member of a specialised torrent sharing site. Seems funny watching kids TV series that were first aired before I was born !

I found "The Tomorrow People" far too moralising; I just wanted that John to jaunt-off to the wide blue yonder.

"Children of the Stones" was excellent. I've not seen better children's drama. Ian Cuthbertson was a great villain !

Ive yet to see "Sandokan" but it's available so I'll give it a go.

I particularly enjoyed the 70's version of "The Famous Five", especially the two part story , with a smuggling theme set in Cornwall. It gave a very young Rupert Graves his first role.

Other things I've enjoyed include :

South Riding; Public Eye; Upstairs,Downstairs; Poldark.

I remember the whole family used to watch Catweasel back in 1970. It was a don't miss programme at the time. But was it any good in comparison to today's programmes ? I don't know, as I don't watch much.

I see it is on YouTube

I bought a box set of DVDs of the first series of Northern Exposure for a pound or two in a charity shop & it was as good as I remembered, with the plus of some episodes I'd never seen before.

I'm not sure it would stand up now, but everyone of my age seemed to have watched it. Tripitaka was very confusing to my young mind - looks like a girl, but called 'he'? Obviously a horse that changed into a man and a monkey god on a flying cloud didn't trouble me at all...

Good old British Panto!

Tripitaka was played by a woman, so the confusion is understandable, but no more confusing than Robin Hood/ aladdin/ prince charming in tights

Oh yes and TV series Doomwatch was way ahead of its time.

In reply to Al Evans:

I'd like to watch Our Friends in the North. I tried to record it to watch later when it was first broadcast, but ended up missing an episode, so rather than get frustrated watching an incomplete series, I never bothered. I'm not sure if it was ever repeated, but I didn't spot it if it was.

Another classic which I did watch (and would like to see again) is The Rotters Club.

The only TV dramas I've ever bought, I actually bought twice, replacing my VHS versions with DVDs (which are very reasonably priced, as someone posted earlier). Mind you, I've yet to get around to watching the DVDs.....!

So, if anyone still has a VHS player, and would like my old copy of Edge of Darkness or Bleasdale's GBH, just let me know.

Didn't search for all of the things listed here, but everything I did look for can be found with a single search on the pirate bay. Learn to torrent, people: http://www.utorrent.com/help/guides/beginners-guide

Inb4 'but torrenting is illegal!' posts. We're talking about stuff from the 60's and 70's here, the argument simply doesn't apply.

Urban myth sadly. Cabin boy was called 'Tom' for example.

This life.
I never saw it at the time as I was out partying away my early 20's.

Lead balloon.
Quite recent but surprised by the lack of repeats.

Twin Peaks.
Not sure. I think this might ruin some myths from my teenage years. Perhaps my current cynicism will ruin it.

Drop the dead donkey. Was of it's time. Given the topical material it was rough around the edges. It has not aged well.

The Avengers -Emma Peel vintage.

There was a great programme called I think The voyage of the Charles Darwin about Darwin's voyage. A search for it on imdb shows that it can be found on DVD so I might have to get looking.

Also ANZAC's from 1984 is a great series about the AIF in the great war, launched several careers including Paul Hogan. Well worth obtaining if you like this sort of thing. Difficult to obtain on UK region DVD I bought a DVD player just to watch my Australian import. Could do with being repeated in the next four years.
