(and please don't say the sea unless it fits for for training )

Going for a few days cycling, either around Brecon or Snowdonia area (unless there are other great suggestions, need hills) and would like to get some swimming done.

Does anyone know of anywhere good? Ideally where I can swim for 500m - 1km in a straight line, or thereabouts - unless there is a dedicated lake with a course.
The sea would be okay if there is easy access and you can follow the shore, I'm not going to swim 1km out and back, not least because my directional control is dodgy at best

Thank you.

p.s. I know there is the Wild Swim map but it isn't always that helpful.

Thanks ebygomm, whereabouts in Bala?

The lake

Sorry don't really have any more info than that, just know they run a number of open water swimming events there.

Lots of swimming in Llyn Padarn Llanberis, most evening there are people swimming, accross the lake and back from the pontoon opposite DMM is 800m, from the pontoon to the dragon boat and back is 1000m aprox.
Surflines next to DMM also do swim group sessions with a canoist escort and shower and changing facilities.

I've seen people swimming in Llyn Gerionydd before, up in Gwydyr Forest. Nice scenic location.

Yes lake Tegid is rather large and hard to miss but its not really in the main snowdonia area unless you happen to be passing it on the way.

Lake Padarn is another larger lake that permits swimming. Sadly there arent many that you are actually allowed to swim in, although if theres nobody around a small remote lake...

Yep both Bala and Padarn are good ones, they're cold though!
if you want the sea then Llandudno or Newborough Beach South Anglesey - both you can swim for quite a distance parallel and not too far out.

Obvious safety comments- don't do it alone and wear a bright hat!!

Fatality in Bala at the w/e with someone falling from canoe
