We have just come back from a climbing expedition to Northern Ethiopia, and one of our expedition aims was to raise the awareness amongst the climbing community of the huge rock climbing and bouldering potential in Ethiopia. By raising awareness, we hope adventure rock climbing tourism will increase in Ethiopia, and increasing sustainable tourism in Ethiopia, which helps local communities for life.

One of the ways we hope to do this is by getting as many people as possible to "like" and "Share" our page. Please take a minute to do this by following the link below:

Often when people think of Ethiopia, they think of Band Aid but the reality is that there are plenty of great reasons to visit the country, with rock climbing being just one.

There have been quite a few rock climbing parties exploring the mountains, towers and rock climbing that Ethiopia has to offer in the past decade and a half, but not many scramblers and hill walkers.
Tourism in general is very slowly on the up, and it would be great to see more trekking and scrambling groups going out to enjoy the hills and towers of Ethiopia too.
The Simien Mountains and Bale Mountains are the two major venues that tour groups go at the moment, and they are both great and well worth a visit. On top of these great venues, Ethiopia has a massive variety of rock types, with lots of potential for new trekking routes, first British ascents of summits/towers and multiple alpine-style ridges and scrambling. but if you have a sense of adventure, then the possibilities for exploratory expeditions and new routing trekking and scrambling expeditions, especially in Tigray, are at present pretty limitless!

Ethiopia is a great country to combine some culture with some climbing/bouldering.

If you want to find out more, have a look at our facebook page for photos of our Ethiopian rock climbing expedition, but the scenic photos should give you an idea of the kind of trekking and scrambling that is on offer too. We will soon be adding a (basic and free) Ethiopian climbing guide for people to download too, join now and facebook should alert you when it's ready!
