My brother in law phoned asking if he should get in touch with Sky(his telephone service) because all the messages in the memory have been deleted. I tried to explain that the message storage is nothing to do with Sky but is within his handset(is that correct - or have I boobed?)

has anyone got any easily digestible info I can give him please?

You have probably boobed.
I say probably since it is possible he has a answer phone but they seem to be losing out now. You would need to ask him how he used to access his service.
Summary of sky voicemail is here, so if he uses 1571 then its sky voicemail if he presses some random button on phone then its answer phone (in his handset).

Thanks, apparently he's only got access via 1571 and not a "playback" button.
