Himlung crevasse fall

Have you seen this video?
We backed off Himlung only 2 weeks ago because of the crevasse danger and I saw these guys going up the valley. Why was he on his own crossing a glacier covered in crevasses?
He spent 4-5hrs climbing out of the crevasse then crawled back to his tent to finally reach his satellite devise, which he didn't he have on him and then had to persuade the rescue team to save him via Facebook. Incredibly lucky he survived.

Incredible that he survived but I had similar questions. I am not sure why an experienced mountaineer was crossing a crevassed area, on his own, with little equipment.
