Looking forward to my first climbing trip to Spain later this year (Oct ), staying near Calpe so will be climbing penon de ifach 😀 I want to know where else will be good for me to visit within an hour or 2 from here for some awesome climbing.

Rockfax produce an excellent guidebook for the region, worth getting it without a doubt. You'll find much inspiration there.
Have a great trip

I have looked at the guidebook and there us so much to chose from, hence why I want recommendations as I can't decide! I'm only climbing there for 4 days so want to get the most out of it!
Thanks for the reply though

Went to Sierra de Toix on a weeks trip a year ago. Thought it was a brilliant area, plenty of routes of varying grades single and multi-pitch. Not far from Calpe with a relatively short walk-in. Great views too, though that's pretty common with the area!

Look at the "Tick-lists" page on this site - they are mostly recommendations, e.g.http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/set.php?id=718

Sella and Guadalest are my favourites.

Toix will easily provide a days entertainment, is easily accessible from where you are.

Another thumbs up for Guadalest, some good climbing and the location is nice as it's easy walk in and you are in the middle of the village so stopping for some shade and an ice cream is great.

If you have transport then I'd recommend Marin, some great routes there.

Olta. I thought it was the best crag in the area, the two classic 6b+'s of Tai Chi and Tufa Groove are incredible.

+1 for Olta,Tai Chi (rockfax cover route) is a must! Also Eldorado (6a+) on the cove below sierra de toix, the finest climb i did there, out over the sea and just as stunning a location as tai chi.

Puig Campana & Ponoch have amazing routes on them. Sierra de Toix as already mentioned, and the sea cliffs below Toix are pretty amazing too.

Echo valley & Alcalali for quality single pitch and very accessible sport routes.

If you want a day out like no other then head to Pirates on the sea cliffs!

You certainly will not forget it!

or some great shots in our albums of areas that are NOT in the guidebook!

enjoy Sam Orange House

South Alicante is nice too.
You can find routes around 500m and 5+, or lower routes (150m) but with the possibilities to climb two or three in a day.
And lots of sport climbing.

You can find some info in www.montana-mediterranea.com
