On a recent trip to Mingulay I was wondering about the climbing on the next island along - Berneray. Some North facing cliffs can be seen from the top of Dun Mingulay but according to the map the really big stuff is SW facing and so out of sight. The map suggests that the cliffs could be over 100m high but it's always a bit difficult to tell from a map how much is good rock as opposed to grassy top out.
Nothing in Garry Latter's selected book and I don't have the 96 SMC guide book.
Anyone been there?
It doesn't look as pretty as Pabbay or Mingulay - no sandy beach and the geography is a lot more basic with essentially one bit hill at one end of the island. What's more, there's a lighthouse with a couple of buildings on top, though apparently it's automated these days so presumably the island is uninhabited. Still, I'd be interested to find out more about it.
