Currently loving the confusion over the pond as to how to treat this poor man.
As far as I'm concerned, anyone who comes to their senses whilst serving in Afghanistan and realises that maybe this 'just' war is not quite as clear cut as it once seemed, is a man deserving of a little understanding.
Not to mention that it sounds like he went through hell.
I suspect the response here would be a little different had he been a Brit?
In reply to Kimono: I find it hard to believe they'll charge him given they traded 5 commanders for his release.
The video the Taliban released of the handover where they handed him over to the Americans was pretty good. They were pretty surprised that the Americans didn't "treat" with them as such, they jumped out, shook hands quickly and then left within seconds.
