Tasting blood while running

Does anyone else get this?

I've only recently started doing some running and have found that when I try really hard (particularly downhill) I get the taste of blood in my mouth. Then after the run I am all coughy.
A google suggests it's not a particularly well understood thing and probably doesn't do any harm but suggests maybe don't try quite so hard.

Anyway, I know nought about running so just thought someone on here might have more experience of this!

This link might help, when I started fell running I noticed I had a similar taste but thought it was more metallic/iron.

I'm by no means a professional runner though, so may well be barking up the wrong tree

Ninth paragraph down, doesn't seem to have done her too much harm! Embrace it!

Do you have a high blood pressure? Maybe the stress is bursting small blood vessels.

Probably not though, I have no medical training...

That link is not altogether reassuring!

Last time I got checked (a month ago, we moved docs) I had low blood pressure so probably not that.

Mention it to your doc - probably worth a quick check up to be on the safe side.

Could be. He does like running and is pretty nippy:

2 hrs 42 mins. A rare daytime outing for him too.
