Since last posting this question in October 2013 (http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=566337&v=1#x7532309) the Met Office have revamped their website again, and I can't seem to get a picture of rain patterns for a few hours ahead on their website (Gaaaah!), yr.no does not give one either anymore.

So any suggestions for accurate detailed ways to check if it is going to over the course of the day? % probabilities and clouds in various colours with the sun peeping out from behind, or not, aren't informative enough for me I am afraid.

I think there might have been a problem with the rainfall layers yesterday?

But in general I go to a forecast, click on the 'weather map' bit and then click the 'show layers' to get access to rainfall. Clicking the 'map for last 24 hours' at the top left gets you the observations map, which is useful to watch the rain coming in...

Actually now that I have a look it seems to have reverted to the older version on the homepage but still go to the newer version when you click through?

Try Wunderground.

I often use Windfinder which gives precipitation figures throughout the day. It is used a lot by surfers & paragliders. I find it pretty accurate for the current day and day after but like all forecasts less so further forward.
