Would I lie to you.

According to Keira the summit was constructed in a giant deep freeze of a sound stage.

Her lead in the credits took her all of 5 days to fulfil

That's quite a heavyweight cast. Approximately 6 Oscar nominations between them.

So two thirds of the movie will be based around a horrendous descent!

And 2 of em are down to Emily?

"A hiking expedition on Mt. Everest is devastated by a severe snow storm."

So, what was once Man's greatest challenge has now become a hiking trip?

Also interesting that they have an actor playng Ed Viesturs. Vertical Limit had the man himself.

It will be a bag of shite.

And his acting, as himself, was embarrassing. Seriously!

btw "hiking" in American English does tend to mean something rather more hardcore than ambling along Offa's Dyke. It kind of equates to "mountaineering" minus any "sheer face climbing", so I am given to believe

Do you remember everyone getting excited about A Lonely Place to Die because it was British (as if that is any guarantee of realism...) and the trailer appeared to feature some real climbing and it looked like climbing would feature extensively?

And then I was the first to report having seen it, and explained that there was about 6 minutes of climbing scenes and they were 80% wrong

Maybe this Everest movie will subvert expectations.

Well done, have a biscuit. I didn't check before guessing six. Maybe there's more in there?

I know a couple of people working on it. It's "Into Thin Air" dramatised. They've both made or worked on plenty of classic mountaineering films/documentaries and seem pretty confident about it, although you never know what will finally be edited together..

Indeed. A lot of such films include hugely experienced mountaineers and mountaineering videographers etc. on their crew, and you still end up with daft scenes in yer Vertical Limits etc (and moronic posts on here asking "why didn't they have any experts on hand to make it realistic")

Into Thin Air has been dramatised before as a made-for-TV movie called "Into Thin Air". Interesting that it's come round again 18 years after "the event" as a bigger production. Looks like this one is not based only on Krakauer's account though, but a "blend".

I say "shush with the nay-saying until the film is seen". That cast really is solid.

Unless there's some rope cutting and a case of nitro-glycerene it'll be rubbish.

Yes, I wonder if they take on board the legitimate criticism that the book got about its portrayal of Boukreev.
