UN diplomatic efforts in Syria- possibilities?

Syria has now weakened on both SNC and Assad side- but there are distinct areas of control that have effectively come into effect. Time for UN involvement and acceptance of an effective division of Syria with Assad on one side controlling certain areas and SNC separately controlling other areas? Why? because conditions to the North have highlighted that the weakening effect of continued Assad /SNC fighting is leaving gaps for others to fill. Should not the UN broker a deal for the effective division of Syria as an effective peace settlement? Is this not the only solution and only basis for another Geneva conference? Why aren't we hearing efforts in this direction especially as war has broken out in Iraq?

If Russia is now making overtures for a closer relationship with the West, what better expression of this than brokering a Syrian deal within the UN?
.... Is it possible with UN troop involvement like in Serbia/Bosnia...It has repercussions for events in Iraq to shut off advancements....Any thoughts...
