Hi,

Planning on heading down to Dartmoor next weekend and just wondering what the best guidebook is for down that neck of the woods these days?

Cheers,

Ben

New CC guide fairly soon. Best bet is still S Devon & Dartmoor + Supplement by Nick White, or CC South West Climbs Vol 2 or Rockfax Westcountry Climbs.

I'd defiantly still go for the Nick White South Devon and Dartmoor guide. "The mother arrived just in time to see her husband unwrap the ruined corpse of their own son"

South devon and dartmoor guide is great. (If you can get a copy) if you do be mindful there are some sandbags in there. Eg haggis billed as hvs 4c but really E1 5b and Aramis hs4b but really vs4c

Depends how long you're there for - the Nick White one is good but tricky to find, whilst there's enough in the Rockfax selective to keep you occupied for a fair few days. Not seen the new CC selective, but looks good like their other new guides.

South Devon and Dartmoor is the best guide, ever. Oh, you mean the best guidebook for Dartmoor? Conveniently that is also the South Devon and Dartmoor :P

That aside, since access to the remaining copies of this hallowed tome is now difficult to acquire...

Rockfax West Country Climbs is useful, if only because it has prettier pictures than many, but also has pretty good coverage of the smaller crags such as Sheepstor.

In terms of freely available online stuff:
If going to Dewerstone, print off the PDF topo from rustypeg/javu (no pictures).

Javu has the best stuff for bouldering, but it also has a good number of topos (including photos) for places such as Haytor/Low Man and is well worth a look.

South Devon Mountaineering Club also has topos for a few of the crags (e.g. Sheepstor).
