There is a group that is pushing very hard to build a cable car directly over the Organ Pipes, situated on Mt Wellington above Hobart. This would have an appalling impact on the crag in particular, let alone the integrity of that part of the mountain.

The local climbing community is looking for ways to muster support from local, national and international climbers. If you have ever climbed on Mt Wellington or intend to do so in the future we'd love to have you behind us.

No formal proposal has been submitted at this stage, but this is likely to happen in the near future. You can view the proposal here:

I enjoyed a visit to the Organ Pipes some years back - it's a great spot and it would be an awful shame if this plan were to go ahead. There's already a road up there - isn't that enough? Willing to sign a petition.

The Wellington Park Management Trust have now called for responses to their proposal to enlarge the Pinnacle Specific Area, which would be the first step in the process of allowing a cable car to be built over the Organ Pipes. Now is your chance to make a difference: representations must be submitted by the 3rd of September. Details about the proposal and how to make submissions can be found here:
