Whats your favourite bit of gear?

A favourite type of carabiner/nut/brand/whatever.

I admit to being a proper gear head. I just like stuff. I know it makes next to no difference at my level but its nice to have nice things!

Mad Rock Trigger Wire krab
OP Stevie989 31 Jul 2014
The Camp carvex looks like the DMM torque nuts of which I'm a fan>

Never seen the mad rock trigger - although I thin k I have seen a quick draw that had a similar use.

I've used it the last two times I've been outside. I have it on the 'String' end of a Petzl Express and I think it's well worth the price.

Truth!

My answer too. I recently bought a second one as I place it so often!

Might be worth adding a link to posts - I go and look all this stuff up!

In reply to Stevie989:

I have an odd attachment to a blue dmm phantom that's got my name engraved on to the back bar where all the product info is (got it on the DMM Factory tour). So much so I've now taken it off my nut key as it was rubbing the anodising off and replaced it with a different one.

You all got it wrong,a Moac is the very best pro, bar none.
OP Stevie989 31 Jul 2014
In reply to Stevie989:
Tired to look MOAC up.

First thing I got was this

www.needlesports.com/NeedleSports/nutsmuseum/nutsstory.htm

All sorts in there!

I might have an old MOAC or two that I acquired kicking about.

My BD Magnetron or Petzl Sirocco. Both divisive, but amazing innovations IMO.

my favourite bit of gear is the 50m 11mm rope that I got in 1991, still use it nearly every day, love it, not happy unless I'm leading on it.

Knifeblade piton. Makes a great sound as you hammer it in, especially on 3* grit routes

Petzl spirit qds for sport. Simple design that works really well.

Old Wallnut 5 that I pulled out of a route. A bit rusty but it seems to drop in everywhere and better than my other 5 for some reason

RP size 5, flies in and sticks fast, no messing about,
I love these bits of kit, so good I have two spare sets.

In reply to Stevie989:

The tiniest CT nut. it's ridiculous - like 2 mm thick. Gets used most outings as a "comedy" piece of gear or a "but it'll slow me down right?" bit of protection.

Deffo gold offset!

I place 2 on every pitch!!

Blue Totem Basic is a close runner up to the purple camalot (has provided many 'thank f**k' placements) or maybe gold WC rock (Probably my most used wire and has caught a fair few lobs!).

A size 3 cam that was an unexpected and very undeserved present. My medium extenders made from wiregates + shortish slings - I keep meaning to make up a couple more. My hexes because they are so pretty ...

... no, I just love all my gear. Carefully acquired second-hand or in sales, mostly, and all of it such an unexpected acquisition, for a hobby/passion that has likewise been an unexpected acquisition.

In reply to Stevie989:

Incapable of climbing any route (even sport) without:
1. Wild Country "magic" hex (aka size 6)
2. Edelrid "lucky" quickdaw (aka Nineteen G)

I am also particularly fond of the .75 camalot.

HB brass offsets. I don't know how I managed for so long without these...

Agree about the gold wire (WC and DMM). We must be climbing next door to eachother!!
 Skipinder 01 Aug 2014
In reply to Just Tintin:

I have a Nineteen G and the 'heavy' C.A.M.P Nano 23 - great bits of gear bit for some silly reason I never place them until a few bolts up LOL

I'm also partial to my belay specs.

In reply to Stevie989:
Dragon 6 aka MEGACAM. Everything is better when you have placed a megacam (not least that you don't have to carry it any more...)

PS I know Camalot/Friend 5 & 6 (and VG9 and VG12) are bigger, but I don't have any of those, plus I'm not sure I could justify taking those on every route :P

Couldn't agree more, I love new shiny things too!

Favourite gear would have to be my DMM demon cams with colour matched spectre 2 biners! Couldn't chose a size, although 3 gets its fair share of use.

BD camalot 0.4, the small grey one. Golden offset or small blue camp ballnut would come in close second and third

and my van, when its full of me, the wife, the dog, the camping kit, food etc and we are off climbing.. got to be THE BEST bit of kit.

I do truly love the pink tricam but that's not to say I haven't got it stuck plenty of times! The white is brilliant too, fits in those tiny pockets where absolutely NOTHING else will fit.
