I have a 3 year old car, and I am pretty sure the MOT is due soon but I don't know when! I've tried the DVLA but as the car has never been MOT'd they don't seem to know either. Is there some easy way to find out when the damn thing needs an MOT? I think it was manufactured in June but not registered till October 2011. My Google skills are evidently weak as I keep ending up at the DVLA MOT history check which isn't any help.

Thanks.

Try the website above, you'll need the log book ref number plus your number plate

From DVLA:

" If a vehicle is registered with no prior use on the road, the MOT will be required three years after the date of registration. For example, a vehicle registered ‘from new’ on 1 April 2004 will require its MOT no later than 1 April 2007.

If a vehicle is used prior to registration, as would be the case with an import, the MOT will be required three years from the end of the year of manufacture. For example a vehicle manufactured at any time in 2004 will require an MOT no later than 31 December 2007. There is no grace period given after these dates. "

" Your car's first MOT test is required when it reaches three years old and then every year after that. "

Hi, I've tried that site and it doesn't work. I've got my V5C next to me and the site helpfully informs me that the DVLA has no data on the MOT status of the vehicle.

Does your V5C have a date of first registration on it, if it does then it will be three years after that date.

Right, cool 3 years from first registration which isn't till October. Glad it isn't 3 years from manufacture as I'd be in trouble!
