Following on from Robin William's sad death on Monday. There has been a lot of talk on the subject of suicide and depression, and peoples feelings towards it, ranging from how sad and unbelievably heartbreaking it is to a Fox TV reporter naming it cowardly. Its hard to believe that in the 21st century there's so much misunderstanding around depression and the possible "prognosis" of death from suicide. Just a thought I suppose. Any talk of the matter or helping people who don't understand the actual medical condition of depression is obviously something that his death can only of boosted, which I suppose is a good thing. Just a thought.

In reply to Jackwd: Three thoughts:

1. Indeed. (OK, that's more of an inward agreement).

2. Fox News: driving the standards of news reporting. Downwards.

3. Related to that Fox news comment, there was a good piece on The Guardian web about it (see http://www.theguardian.com/science/brain-flapping/2014/aug/12/robin-william... ).

Anything that encourages greater awareness of depression, understanding of what it is, how it can be treated and how those others around someone they know to be suffering from it can only be good. Fitness, health and vitality* may shine as if from a light within, but depression hides in dark corners.

In reply to Jackwd:

Some interesting reporting (R4 Media Show, but more general reporting as well) on a number of UK papers not following the agreed (with Samaritans) guidelines on the reporting of suicide in relation to Robin Williams' death. Having seen a couple of front covers in the supermarket, Mail, Mirror and Sun appear to be the worst culprits.
