Always great when young(ish) chaps like me discover a band from slightly before our time and are enlightened.

Grabbed Roxy's hits album in HMV .thinking that seeing as it was a fiver,I couldn't really go wrong .

Some great tracks .

'Avalon' is a thing of beauty.

Enligtened.again.
In reply to andymac: Bryan Ferry had an audition to be lead singer with King Crimson. Which would have been different, but it's probably as well it wasn't.

Bryan Ferry must have been the coolest lead singer on the planet.

My 'Bryan Ferry sex on legs' search got instant results.

He must have got as much as Tom Jones.

In reply to andymac: I can't imagine him making a good fist of singing '21st Century Schizoid Man' though.

Saw them in Glasgow in the 70s, your favourite decade!

We thought Eno was pathetic, I now have a lot of Eno music (and Phil Manzanera music).

In reply to Colin Moody:

Didn't think you were that old Colin.

Had to take a short cut through your place of work one night ,after puncturing on Gribun.

Never realised it was such a big operation.

Biggest consumers of electricity on the island, very green.
In reply to andymac:

Their first two albums "Roxy Music" and "For your pleasure" were fantastic, the rest tripe.

In reply to andymac:

I remember when Roxy Music appeared on The Old Grey Whistle test in 1973, it blew me away, and several of my mates. It was a completely new sound, and was instantly very influential. The first album was the best, I think Eno gave them their unique sound, and when he left they gradually became more mainstream and boring, epitomised by Ferry's cabaret act.

Yes agree, the track "in every dreamhome a heartache" is one of the best, each word seems have been carefully selected to form a truly outstanding track.

I think Bill Murray sang 'More than this' better than Bryan Ferry.

The 12" mixes of Angel Eyes and Ferry's Don't Stop the Dance are great. 80s wine bar vibes.

Good point I have a few of their albums, from back in the day, in the loft (old format!) , but I do have a few tracks now on my Iphone that I should play more often. I will make a point of revisiting.

With a bit of practice ,Bill could nail it.

Scarlett seemed to enjoy it.

Great film that. Bill Murray is awesome. Scarlett's alright too.

Agreed, I'll need to watch it again soon. Perhaps Bill does need a wee bit practice, but I love it anyway.

I've watched your clip about 20 times in as many minutes.

There is something brilliant in his voice.

Or approaching brilliant.

With a bit of practice

I'm remembering another use of a Roxy Music track in "The Big Man" when Liam Neeson is in a nightclub watching his estranged wife dancing with another man (?). I can't remember the track or find it online, maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

In reply to Blue Straggler:

Yup, I think you're right it would kind of fit the scene as well, another Roxy Music classic as well.
I only got as far as finding 'Same Old Scene' in a film I'd never heard of - 1980's 'Times Square'.
youtube.com/watch?v=YLPSxjQ6L4Y&

I have found a page on IMDB giving 48 credits for soundtracks, and although the Big Man isn't mentioned, their contributions have covered a range of stuff - from The Stud to Only Fools and Horses

In reply to drmarten:

It took me 3 minutes but I was lucky. First find out the film was called "Crossing the Line" in the USA.
Then Google :

"Crossing the Line" movie soundtrack Roxy Music

and spot something in the second hit, with astounding luck. A page all about Bryan Ferry, but the search terms floated "Performer - 'Over You'" to the top. Confirm via something else, and bish bash bosh. Lots of muddlement with Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael and the fact that the released soundtrack to the film was "just" Morricone's score.

How the hell did they rope Morricone into this little Brit film?!

Sexy video indeed .been a lot of work put into it.

A who's who of iconic fashion models and screen goddesses

Even Cara Delevigne makes it .

In reply to andymac: Saw them in 1972 at The Hardrock in Manchester, a converted bowling alley. We got in for free with a guy I had met through work who was a roadie.
Sharks were on the same bill, fronted by Andy Fraser from Free.
A great night.

Why the heck did you have to post this.

I have been 'singing' this continuously all day.

And I think Bill does it better

' ...why the sea on the tide ,keeps turning..'

Love it.

I've moved on, now I'm stuck with "Singing The Blues", Whistler style.
