Best way to clean muck off the bike when it's dried?

Yes I am guilty.
Been mountain biking and did not clean the bike afterwards.
I do no so far possess a pressure washer.
So do I leave my bike out in the rain today for a while and then get a brush to it?
I am wary of getting the gear mechanism unduly wet.
Is it best to scrub away like crazy on the chain and gears and then puther oil over it all straight after?
Should I dry them(well nigh impossible)with a cloth?

(Just noticed that I had Of instead of Off in the title)

firstly, dont get a pressure washer unless you want to screw up your bearings.

If its dry mud, brush it off with some kind of stiff brush, then use a bucket of soapy water and a sponge.

For the drive train you may need a degreaser to get the crud off, but most will come off with soapy water and a good scrub.

dry it s best you can, (bouncing it up and down to get most of the water off) then re lube

What he said ...

Also don't get a chain cleaning device - these are great for dripping degreaser into the bearings on your rear hub.

If you're going to fully degrease your chain better to remove it and do it separately.
