This is a continuation of this post http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?n=589702 which has been archived (not sure why that's done).

Thought I'd post a follow up. Kamchatka is a fantastic place and we were blessed with really good weather. We didn't climb Kluchevskaya Sopka but did climb Tolbachik, getting fantastic views. Tragically I understand there have been four or five deaths this year on Kamen and we met the rescue crew for the first incident.

My photos from our trip here http://rongbuk.squarespace.com/kamchatka-2014

I think that wearing full down clothing at night wouldn't have been very restful, but using a lightweight sleeping bag and down jacket over that would have been fine. Then again it wasn't very cold at all. In the end I used a lightweight down jacket in the evenings and a good down sleeping bag, which I seldom needed to zip up.

In reply to Arbu: Thanks for the update. Your photos are excellent. It appears that there is much less snow this year compared to august 2002. Very sad to hear about the fatalities on Kamen. A quick search provided this

To my surprise the top photo in that article is from 2002 and I recognise the back of myself on the left!

I got carried away looking at your wonderful pictures. I hope taking them isn't too hard.

In reply to Dave Perry:

According to the organisers it would have been too hard! We were told to only take compact cameras because we would have too much other weight to carry. I ignored that and took my SLR and 70-300mm lens. So glad I did and pleased you liked the pictures.

Arbu & Mal, I was also referring to the rest of the pictures taken elsewhere. They're all quite beautifully done.

In reply to Dave Perry:

Thanks v. much. I wouldn't mind publishing them more widely some day but the problem is I enjoy taking them more than marketing them so progress has been limited...
