Thanks guys, good info. Do you have any alternate suggestions for climbing near Perpignan? What is this Aude place?? Also where is best to find topos??

Thx
Dave

Are you staying in Perpignan or can travel and when are you travelling?
There are several granite crags from Prades (30mins from Perpignan) all the way up towards Mont Louis on the Andorra road. The climbs in the gorge de Cady, near Prades are superb but unusually for France also need a trad rack. There is a small but good crag at Casteil, near to Prades http://caf.prades.escalade.free.fr/ with some really nice one and two pitch routes.
I live 90mins from Perpignan in Les Angles, towards Andorra and if you plan to come up this way or want copies of our "local" crag topos, then let me know.
By the way, the Aude is the department just to the north of the Pyrenees Orientales.

Mike's suggestions are probably the best, but you can see where most crags are here : http://climbingaway.fr/en/rock-climbing-areas/world-map-of-rock-climbing-ar...
(across departement borders too, which the FFME site doesn't make easy)

Oh right. Céret is on the other side of the Canigou, so it'll probably be easier for you to get to Spain than to head north of Perpignan, or to head up the Têt valley towards the crags Mike describes.

You'll have to drive a bit to get anywhere, but you have the advantage of being able to head either side of the Pyrenees depending on the weather.

Looking on Google Maps it's about 1h15 to some of the Spanish crags, about the same to La Clape near Narbonne and a bit over 2 hours to Targasonne.

If you will be in Ceret, the nearest crags are in the Alberes at Rimbau & Ultera. http://climbingaway.fr/fr/site-escalade/le-rimbau. http://climbingaway.fr/fr/site-escalade/ultrera-notre-dame-du-chateau. There is also a limestone crag, Vall de Quers, past Prats de Mollo. http://climbingaway.fr/fr/site-escalade/vall-de-quers. Over the col d'Ares, towards Ripolles there is the Dent d'en Rossell & Montgrony but personally if I was going out for a full day I would drive to Montserrat.
Hope that this helps. Mike

As of last month Tauteval and Opoul seem to be being climbed regularly whereas Vingrau isn't (which is a shame). I just bought the latest guide in Tauteval last month.

If you do go that way, I live in Andorra and am happy to climb in the Ariege, Alt Urgell, Lleida areas.
