Using a single half-rope as a double

I want to introduce my son to double rope climbing (on short routes - 15 metres or thereabouts). I currently only have one half rope. Aware of the issue of colour (not that blue, the other blue!). Would it be worthwhile or should I lash out on another half (bearing in mind he is 12 and still exploring what he wants to pursue).

Cheers

One assumes he knows his left from his right (and he´s capable of holding you in a fall)? On longer routes the colours don´t matter anyway since you can´t communicate very well anyway so he might as well learn correct rope handling to start with.

One assumes correctly! And he will be leading single pitch so no worries about him holding me in a fall. So good starting point?

Using a doubled half rope like that is my usual practice on small crags. No reason why not to.
