Actually I'm curious to hear from anyone who's been there this year, is the rock fall from Jan 2013 still visible or is it covered over by snow?

I was stood on the top of Mt Dixon about a week before that happened! No effect on Mt Cook though.

I was up there in both January 2013 a day or two after the rockfall, then headed up again during the next season in December 2013. All the debris had been completely eaten by the Grand Plateau glacier by the time of my second trip, so it's not an issue accessing the Linda/Zurbriggens/Tasman anymore. Hope that helps.

Check with DOC (The New Zealand Department of Conservation) about the situation with the huts. You can contact them over facebook or by their website I guess.

This happened really recently (July 2014) and so I'm not sure that there is an emergency shelter left any more.
