For many years now I have been using Alpkit wool mix socks for pretty much everything, daily wear, running, cycling etc. Sadly they are now coming to the end of their lives and Alpkit say they have no plans to make more.

I would like something similar but all the alternatives I've seen are either of crap quality or cost the earth.

Any suggestions?

I'm afraid they fail the second of my criteria.

£8 a pair for bridgedale merino trekkers in cotswolds atm- thats half price. Still not cheap, but quality costs!
Alternatively, join sportpursuit and look out for deals there!

Can you get a visit to Costco? 4 pairs of smart wool Crew socks, about a tenner.

As an alternative, if you have a Costco near/ a friend with a Costco card, they do a 3 pack of thick merino hiking socks for around a tenner. I have about twenty pairs. They're great!

Relphs Farmers Warehouse for me. Yanwath near Penrith.

Quality 70% wool 30% Nylon thick socks. £4 plus Vat.

Bought 12 pairs last time I was there.

Wear for work and mountaineering. Still got quite a few pairs unused. Good as any socks I have used.

Hey Dave,

It may be a bit late as you have bought some others - but a few samples and prototypes have appeared at Alpkit HQ this past few weeks. Rumours are they may come back, but I can't confirm right now.....
