Taking a trip to Pyrennes over half term, driving from Dover and thinking of breaking at least one of the journeys. No particular route worked out yet.

Can anyone recommend any diversions, minor detours that are good value ? Climb, bike or cultural fun and interesting stuff. Anything from a nice lunch stop to a day or two random amusement !

Thanks

Nice campsite in Chalon sur Saone, that's about half way for you and just off the autoroute or the RN

Beaune is my favoured good stop off. Nice municipal campsite 5mins walk from town.

If you go via Paris and Clermont it's worth going to St Nectaire/Murol area for the cheese alone.

Have you come across futuroscope, in Poitiers? It's about halfway down. Really worth stopping off for - whether you've got kids with you or not.

If it's climbing you're after, perhaps Ceou, although it's well over halfway.

But the blast down is do-able inside a day - this summer we did the Plymouth-Roskoff ferry and drive down in one push.

Going via the Gorge Du Tarn is not too much of a diversion.

Ceou is a nice place to climb for a few days, great area and campsite below the cliff is also very nice, however as already posted it if over halfway in the journey

That's the best suggestion so far.

Although maybe a little too far North for you Troyes is amazing. Its pretty much en route and only a couple of miles diversion. Google it up as the medieval architecture is amazing.

There is a nice municipal campsite in St Rome De Dolan. It is at the top of the gorge with great views. It also gets the sun in the morning and evening, while those in the bottom of the gorge are in shadow.

You could be touristy and do the Gouffre de padirac and Rocamadour - just be aware that the gouffre can have massive queues unless it's early/late.

Or you could take the funicular up the Puy du Dome if the vis is good.
