As the title suggests, I'm. Looking for ideas for teaching a new skill to someone in a classroom environment in five minutes? Any ideas, it can be about absolutely anything really!

T shirt folding...

Give them all a t shirt, and ask them to find the quickest way to fold it perfectly (as per your example), give them. 1 minute to work out how they will do it, then get them to race to do it, time them and work out what their fastest time is.

It will be 10-15 seconds. With a range of comically rubbish results.

Then show them this technique:

How about teaching them how to open a bottle of champagne with a sabre. For added effect wear your best bow-tie, and give them all a bottle of champagne and a sabre each so they can try it as well. Don't forget to throw in a few jokes. Sorted.

(Several bottles of champagne and accompanying sabres should ensure a good, if somewhat interesting, lesson.)

What is it for ? Are they looking for your teaching style, how you talk in public or what?

To tie your shoes so they don't come undone:

Basically tie the 2nd bow as a reef knot not a thief knot - chances are if this hasn't ever been pointed out to you, you've been tying your laces badly for the whole of your life! Very handy to know especially for under gaiters.

It simply requires a demonstration of reef and thief knot strength and a demonstration of how to do it on the double bow on laces - if you haven't done it before it can be strangely tricky to master even though it is dead simple.
