Up until recently I'd only ever seen him in SlingBlade ("Some folks call it a Kaiser blade...") which I thought was an awesome movie.

I've just finished watching Fargo and loved it.

He's actually plays a good role doesn't he.

A mate's loaned me "The Man Who Wasn't There" which we're going to watch later tonight. Am I going to be disappointed...?

No, his performance in The Man Who Wasn't There is sublime. The film overall isn't QUITE up to scratch, a bit flat, but still good. His performance transcends it a little.

He is great fun as the mechanic in Oliver Stone's "U-Turn" as well

Just watched it. I'm a little bit underwhelmed by the movie, but still liking Billy Bob.

IMO his best Oscar performance was either in "Bad Santa" or "A simple plan".

It's 50/50 tbh!

My spider sense isn't with it tonight Pad....I can't tell whether you're being serious or sarcastic...I bet one of these is an absolute turkey...

Maybe I'll check on IMDB / rotten tomatoes...

I thought he was brill in Fargo. It was a role that did him justice. And Fargo was, in my estimation, also a great (if somewhat singular) series.

I think Lorne Malvo is up there alongside Anton Chigur as 'best bad guy ever'

I'd have a look at Slingblade, if you haven't already.

Yes that's kinda what I meant (and said....or tried to...)

In reply to Padraig:

He was a bit cartoony in A Simple Plan, perfectly good performance but very clichéd stuff and arguably a bit of a rehash of Carl from Sling Blade.

Best bit of acting in A Simple Plan was a single scene toward the end, from Bridget Fonda (who didn't really have much to do throughout the rest of the film), ranting about what could have been.

Simple Plan -some naive country boys try to steal mob money - must be a rip off of you know what

In reply to Tom Valentine:

Nah, the fact that it's in a different location, and there's three of them and they are all far more bumbling and clueless, exonerates it from that charge

I first came across him in Monster Ball, (but Halle Berry's talents distracted me from BBT performance as Hank Grotowski.

In which film did he "just stand there and bleed"?

According to my friend ( Google)

Tombstone

I thought he was great in Fargo.

The series was much, much better than the film too!
