Dinorwig Banksy

While walking around Dinorwig yesterday, having passed through a couple of tunnels, we found to our left a Banksy style graffiti of 11 Quarry men on the tunnel wall.

The artwork is entirely black and white. I took some pictures however it wont let me attach on the forum.

I cannot seem to find any other reference to this online - has anyone else seen it? All I can find is an article from 2012 about some other graffiti by London artist Jack Murray https://www.thebmc.co.uk/graffiti-on-slate

This is most definitely not the same graffiti, and is not adjacent to any climbs as it is on the inner wall of the end of a tunnel.

This was the first time I have been into Dinorwig, we climbed up to the right of what looked to be a recently drained reservoir with dead trees at the bottom, and the tunnels were up to the high right hand side of this reservoir.

Thanks all

Ollie.

Sounds like you went up the side of Dali's Hole.

Put the pics up on imgur then link?

Could it have been related to this:

(there are two parallel slider bars on the right, not easy to find initially)

Thanks! We were all excited thinking we had found an undiscovered Banksy or something. Was still pretty exciting, the image was tasteful in my view and out of sight.

Hi mate,

Can't use forum code on here unfortunately. Bit too advanced.

First pic is Dali's Hole. Second is looking back towards Dali's from the California tunnel. In front of the photographer (the big drop) is the entrance to Hades, and behind the photographer is the California level.

No idea on the graff though, not seen it before.

Have a look at my post here:

We found the same the other week. I also have a pic of the artists tag/signature although it means nothing to me! There is at least another one of these impressive miners that we saw as well as other abstract stuff

From your pics, the second was that guy who got told to f*ck off when someone posted his 'art' here and he showed up defending it, the third has been in the quarries for ages and ages. Dunno where it came from though.

Perfect thanks for the responses! I will have to get up there again and explore some more. I am glad others are finding them too. Personally I thought it was great, I know some may object.

Looks like the one we found was one of the 'MaryMary' images as shown in nwclimber's post.

I am assuming the water level rises and falls in Dalis hole or is this now permanently empty?

Yes I think you are right, the link the OP posted contained another link to a pic of the artist doing that abstract thing which I've only seen because of this post and it has completed the puzzle for me. It's sort of 2 levels up from Looning the tube which I did early this year but had no idea of the painting above me until recently doing snakes and ladders with the mrs. I like the sheep, I wonder what it means?
The workmen/miners pictures appear to be spray painted over several layers using stencils but what do I know?! I like them all the same. Go out and find the other one

the third image of the black face sheep has it always had the speech bubble and black hat?

In reply to wilkie14c:

yes , the image of the quarry men is a 3 layer stencil, and done with some skill, very nice.

Just read the blog and can confirm that the lost world hut and trees are mostly gone due to rockfall. A perfectly fitting end maybe to this artists work, to be reclaimed by the mountain.

the third one of the black face sheep is done by the same artist that did the second.
