I've got plans to head to New Zealand in December, any advice on areas where there is big/good climbing, or guidebooks to get would be much appreciated. ta

Fiordland! If you want climbing in NZ that is big and good fiordland fits that bill. You can base yourself at Homer hut along the Milford road where there is a huge array of big mulipitch granite walls on good rock in a great setting. The Nzac guidebooks are good if you know your going to spend time a lot of time in a certain area. Then queenstown and Wanaka have lots of shist sport climbing ranging from some single pitch to some great mulitpitch in some areas. They all have local guidebooks. The South Island Rock is ok but nothing special.

Darrans

Darrans or Mt Cook areas. Guidebook for the Darrans here https://alpineclub.org.nz/product/the-darran-mountains and the Mt Cook one is on a nearby page. If you're looking for bog rock walls then December can be tricky in the Darrans as there's often still quite a bit of seepage until all the snow melts. December can be really good in the high mountains as the glacier travel tends to be more straightforward than later in the season.
