Lets save the taxpayer millions

ITT: Your quick fixes that would save the government lots of money.

My idea - pass a law that makes people have to put in paths along housefronts to stop forcing postmen up and down driveways. If you've ever delivered newspapers or leaflets you'll know the amount of time you spend avoiding large lawns or walking up driveways (especially rich people with pretty much small roads to fit all their cars on). Multiply the time wasted by every single post-person delivering to every single road in the UK and you have millions of work-hours saved.

No thanks needed DC.

BUT now postie does job is 1/3rd the time so Royal Mail sack 2/3rds of the work force requiring the Govt. to pay out loads of unemployment benefit.

My postie's a happy chap until you mention letterbox's situated at ankle level at which point he starts bending your letters every which way while posting them until you apologize and say what an awful idea they are.

Ban council chappies weed-killing around tower blocks that will be blown up the following week.

Not sure how much this would save but it has happened at least once, let's say £12.35 a year. IT all adds up.

And MPs can have the same expenses as other civil servants. That should save a few quid...

Won't the price go down a bit unless we stagger the supply?

Charge the good sandgrown people of Blackpool 2% of their house value in council tax to pay for light bulbs and electricity for tourists then charge the same residents extra to throw their own rubbish away at the tip. Oh hang on a minute...

Or follow the US approach of post being delivered only to a box at the end of the drive.

Sell British Waterways or donate our armed services to NATO.

Or Build a water pipeline from the lakes to London alongside HS2 and tax anyone past Watford.. cure the water shortage, sort the deficit and north south divide! Boom!

Here's a brazilian TV advert from a few years back promoting the same idea:
