slippery jack mushrooms

Just found a whole stack of these under pine trees. Are they any good and are there any dodgey lookalikes?

Are you sure they are slippery jacks? There's a whole lot of boletes that look very similar. I would advise getting a mushroom book, one rather good one for beginners is 'Mushrooming without fear'. Unless you're a mycologist it's wise to air on the side of caution.

Slippery jacks are fairly unpleasant in texture and unremarkable in taste - don't bother IMHO

Aye - I'd read that. There defo slippery jacks, and might just slice the layer of yellow pores off, peel the slimey skin, and try a bit.
