SAR and Insurance

Sorry if this has already been aired. I was in a discussion last night with some others about the impending privatisation of SAR flights.

The concensus seemed to be that, unlike the current situation where the RAF operate in conjunction with civilian MRTs, companies such as Bristow will give a very low priority to doing so. Irrespective of the government saying things will not change the feeling seems to be that eventually there will be little if any aerial support for civilian MRTs.

If this is the case one wonders what, if any, the solution is. Could it lead to compulsory insurance for instance?

Interested to hear what others have to say.

Jims thread should give you all you need. Your concerns are not unique, but there are many controls in place to try and ensure a smooth handover. A number of MRT senior members are involved in a working group.
