"Via Ferrata" a complete guide to France by Joceln Chavy and Philipe Poulet published by Cordee is a good place to start.

Look around the the Ecrins, we spent a couple of weeks in Serre Chevalier this summer and did 4 including two relatively long and ones, Aig du Lauzet - great terrain and wonderful views - and Croix Du Toulouse, which starts and ends at cafes in Briancon but has an element of adventure once you get on it!

I'd also go for the Ecrins. There is an excellent route along the gorge from Vallouise which is well worth a look, but isn't in the Chavy guidebook. The Tourist Information office in Argentiere has details. There is also a nice intro route up to the clock tower in the town.
