EDEN CLIMBING WALL - 20 YEAR OLD

COME ALONG TO CELEBRATE – 5TH NOVEMBER !!

The Eden Climbing Wall was opened on 5th November 1994.
The Wall opened by the patrons – Lord Inglewood, Chris Bonington and Doug Scott and was dedicated to the memory of Andy Fanshawe who had had the idea of a climbing wall in Eden Valley but sadly was killed in 1992.
Since then the Wall has been run by a group of enthusiastic local climbers along with the management team of the Penrith Leisure Centre and Eden District Council. It is in a purpose built room and has developed over the years. There have been climbing competitions there in the past - there has even been a musical evening there organised by a local music teacher looking for unusual locations for a concert !
Climbers of all ages have used the Wall and many had their initial interest in climbing kindled here - it is interesting who has past by this way.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Wall there will be a celebration on Wednesday 5th November - when use of the Wall will be free in the evening.
There will be papers and documents relating to the building of the Wall on display.
The Wall will be open to all climbers and others interested are welcome to come along.
