Looking for suggestions for a winter running sack, 10 - 15 litres but with straps to hold an ice axe. Any suggestions?

This looks like it has a couple of axe loops, have you considered getting a smaller axe that you can put inside your regular bag? Might be cheaper than getting a new bag. Or just taking one technical axe, heavy, but smaller than a walking axe. That's what I have always done when I needed one.

I am selling a Black one for £45 posted. It has been used once on a short bike ride so as new.

I don't think you need an ice axe loop at all.

I've always managed fine with the various OMM sacks, any sack really.. A light weight axe can just be spiked through the draw string and then use the straps to hold it in. That was how I ran my winter paddy and carried my axe for 25 hours.

Make sure the spike goes down.. adaze head at the top.. it goes through me seeing runners with the spike ready to smash through the base of their skull if they slip backwards...

As Ian said. Worry about the sack, the ice axe loop bit is easy. What axe, Grivel Ir Tech racing comes in a special short lengh for things like this and ski mountaineering though depending on how you use an axe it might be very short at 48cms

Yup - I was reading through the thread thinking I'm sure I've just stuffed an axe onto my OMM sac - and trying to remember if it has any attachments, or if it was just in the bungees.

ETA - fairly short axe, 50 cm, is my preferred walking axe anyhow.

Yeah I've got a camp XLA 210 I think it is.. 50cm or so, weights 250g or something.

There's a few options from ski mountaineering which make great running axes. So light they'll ping off ice but fine for terrain you cross on a run. I'd climb low grade winter routes with mine.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I already have an axe so it's just a sack i'm after.

I think having some bungee would be essential for winter allowing you to keep a warmish jacket with out taking up the entire pack.

I've largely given up on sacs for long runs and use a race vest (Salomon S Lab 12) most of the time which I find much more comfortable. Ultimate Direction make a vest, the PB, which has an ice axe loop on it as well as lots of other good features and it is well worth checking out. Sadly the large size isn't big enough for me

New UD Fastpack 20. Bought to complement my SJ Ultra Vest when I also expected the PB to be marginal for size, and pretty well perfect for the job...
