So here's a very dry question guaranteed to provoke boredom:

Any suggestions for the strongest gate-open, clean-nose wire gate carabiner?

My current winner is the Petzl Ange with an exceedingly clean nose and a gate-open strength of 10KN.

Can anyone top that?

WC Helium is (lighter? and) stronger.

Ange is only 9kn

The Ange L (which is a bit bigger and heavier) is 10KN.

Good suggestion on the Helium. There isn't much between the two though (stated weight is 1g less for helium but the clean nose isn't AS clean as ridiculous as that is).

So I'm now off to produce a climbing gear top trumps pack of cards.

The rain comes in and you are stuck waiting for it to clear, so out comes the top trumps cards. You are in the bothy it's a quiet night just the two of you and a bottle of rum, out comes the top trumps cards.

Who'd buy em?

My suggestion would be heliums out of the lot. They may be about ten years old but they are still a stunning design that works exceedingly well. The shield has an awkward gate to handle and the ange is not a true wiregate but is really a slimmed down normal krab
