I spend eight hours a day on the bridge of a ship where the only entertainment that I can enjoy is music or radio. Given that my watchman, a guy called Dave, hates the Chillis I need suggestions for podcasts that will be interesting to listen to during the night watch.

Anything from 'In our time' - Melvyn Bragg. I hardly ever understand it all, but it can be fascinating.

If you like the Zombie genre then I recommend http://www.werealive.com/

Its a mix of "I Am Legend" and "Walking Dead".

It's like a radio play with different characters and wotnot.

I still listen to all the Ricky Gervais podcasts. They are a few years old now but still very funny. A good way to while away the hours when i've been driving.

A second this american life and serial which are both long so good if you have plenty of time on your hands, planet money is also excellent. There is lots on bbc4 which are good in our time, profile, comedy of the week, documentary of the week, forum (on the ws)

...and the single best podcast more or less with Tim Harford

Adam and Joe are not to everyone's taste but if you're a fan of sillyness and witty banter then these chaps are top of the pile I reckons:-

The Bugle, the most consistently funny thing around

In reply to Roberttaylor:

Radioman is absolutely my favourite.
I'm also listening to a lot of Shrink Rap Radio at the moment if you're interested in psychology.
This American Life, In Our Time, and Dan Carlin's history podcasts are all also worth a listen.

Skeptics guide to the Universe, Naked Scientist, Absolute Radio Frank Skinner Show, Fighting talk on BBC if you like sport and +1 for The Bugle

Another vote for Skeptics Guide to the Universe and Friday Night Comedy. Also From Our Own Correspondent (essential listening!), Solopreneur Hour, The Art of Charm, Tim Ferris Show, Smart Passive Income, Fat Burning Man, Listen! Money Matters and Entrepreneur on Fire. I spent hours driving and podcasts keep me relatively sane.

I love serial! (and This American Life).

Fans of Planet Money should download Startup. It is Alex Blumberg's podcast of him starting a business.
