As a general rule do many of you use specific boots for winter and summer ?!? I only ask as my current boots are both breathable and waterproof but I've only ever summer hiked in them. I'm talking most weathers, not deep winter ice conditions.

Knocking about the North Yorks Moors or any other bumpy bits I don't differentiate between summer/winter boots. But if I was intent on hill bashing on higher stuff in winter conditions - hard snow on ground and I had no intention of using an axe or crampons or doing a route, I do use stiffer boots, as they are easier to kick holds with for a bit of extra security.

Depends a bit on the type of walking you do and where. Most of my walking is in Scotland and places like Norway, Iceland and the Pyrenees, where the terrain is generally fairly rough and/or wet, so I generally use the same pair of boots for summer and winter hillwalking (but not winter climbing). Currently have Mammut Appalachians which take crampons no problem.
