Hi, I'm getting married in May and we're off to kalymnos for our honeymoon. Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere great to stay?

Ideally it has to be near to the main climbing but far enough to run away from it all, somewhere a little bit different and self catered.

Thanks, Will

Try Claude Idoux. http://www.kalymnos-rent.com/Kalymnos_accueil_UK.html

Not only is he a great guy, but he has also put up 100's (1000's?) Of new routes on Kalymnos and Telendos so has fantastic local knowledge

Thanks, that looks like a good option!

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

I always enjoy a day over in Telendos (home to the best crag Llambda) and we have often thought about staying on the island. You're away from the bustle of Massouri but only a short boat trip across to Kalymnos. Can't personally vouch for the accommodation but it might fit what you're after. Found this http://telendos.org/ which leads you to a place called On The Rocks. There are other places there too, and a hotel called Porto Potha which might be a bit more up market. Congratulations, and have a great trip

I remember being told at school to read the question carefully before answering it... seems I still haven't got the hang of that. I've just spotted the crucial words 'self catered' in your post. My experience of self catering facilities is that they are VERY basic - two electric rings and a small assortment of pots, pans, plates etc. I've never found anywhere where you could cook more than a pretty simple dinner. Others may know better? Mind you, eating out is great. Not that expensive, quite a few decent places opening now (in addition to the Agean).

Our plan was to eat out, just meant that we'd prefer to eat out than at a hotel, some great ideas there thought, thanks!

We stayed at Emborios (Emporios) last year. At Harry's Paradise. Self catering apartments close to a nice beach and with a much quieter "end of the road" feel about the village than you will find closer to the main climbing areas. Some climbing within walking distance, and no trouble reaching all the climbing areas if you have a car or scooter. Might be worth considering.
