See title. Can anyone recommend any hostels in the Yorkshire grit area, preferably between Skipton and Harrogate, that are open and available over winter. Just for two people. Tried the YHA, a lot of them seem to be closed or busy, tried searching for other hostels with little luck.

Thanks for any help.

There is a cavers/climbing club hut near Clapham you may be eligible to book.

What about a caravan or a cheap hotel chain deal? Tourist Information?

Camped here in the past, they also have a hostel, and a link to the Independent Hostel Guide.

Bit short on bunkhouses in that area though dalesbridge on the A65 Near austwick is only 20 mins from skipton

Also there's a few other bunkhouse options in ingleton and Bentham

Log cabins and static caravans at long ashes between grassington and Kinsey though I've not searched for a price

How about this place near Masham, good for the Slipstones obviously.

They also do yurts but that might be a bit knit-your-own-yoghurt for you Fiend?

Cheers, 20 mins from Skipton is fine. Dalesbridge didn't seem to offer anything for Dec from today: http://www.freetobook.com/affiliates/reservation.php?w_id=1280&w_tkn=SR...

Bivouac place could be a - pricey - option.

Any others??

We did this about three or four years ago and ended up settling on the YHA in Howarth. Bit more of a diversion south, but a decent place to stay.

It's a bit of a (expensive, suburban) dead spot round the Yorks grit area; all the hostels tend to be up the western edge of the dales. If it was me I might be tempted to stop in one of those spots (very pretty) and just live with a bit more of a commute each day - winter bouldering normally means a 'relaxed' start and plenty of evening to kill anyway.

I'd say Haworth is a great recommendation. You can walk to Widdop or Heptonstall in an hour and a half, drive to Woodhouse and Baildon (warning, urban) in 15 mins, 30 mins drive gets you to the Dales wonders of Crookrise and Rylstone and it'll take no longer to drive to the mighty Almscliff and Ilkley.

Yeah stayed at Haworth before, they weren't available this time. You're right it is a bit of a dead spot around there, Malham, Inglethingy and Kettlewell weren't available either.
