Hi I'm looking to find sport climbs in the peak district using public transport? I will be coming from nottingham (ideally getting the train into matlock)

Thanks for any advice

Masson Lees is a short walk from the station, 'helicopter' quarry is closer but banned and Cawdor quarry is very close but not worth the effort. There are a few more quite close by but depends really on your grade, and crap route tolerance threshold.

There are bolted routes a plenty in Matlock Bath. Right and left wings of High Tor, New Bridge Buttress at Wildcat, Lorry Park Quarry, Long Tor Quarry and a 2 sport routes at Willersley. Some are as good as any routes of their grade. The quarries will more than likely be wet over winter but the High Tor, Wildcat and willersley routes may well be goers.

Grades pretty low, 5a/5c just after getting out really

Masson Lees is your best bet then, it offers some of the least bad lower grade bolted climbing in the peak but gets a bit wet and has had recent rockfall. Don't be tempted by Cawdor in anything other than a drought and even then its underwhelming. If you can get to Wirksworth then Colehill is worth an afternoon. I'm afraid the Peak is not your best spot for low grade sport!

Horseshoe Quarry is another option : train to Chesterfield then #66 bus gets you to Stoney Middleton in about 90mins from Nottingham.

Until recently there was a useful bus between Nottingham & Manchester via Buxton but it seems they only go from Derby at present.

Hi, not too sure how it'd work on public transport coming from Nottingham, but New Mills Torr in the peak has a few interesting bolted routes in a great location & it's only 2 minutes from the train station (central). Trains from Manchester or Sheffield
