Walking back to my car along the track from Stank Glen after a clockwise circuit on Ben Ledi yesterday, I noticed what looked suspiciously like a full depth slab avalanche just below the summit (I hadn't noticed it on my way up a couple of hours earlier). I contacted the police to air my concerns as a precautionary measure. UKC's Mark123 contacted me on FB this morning. He did the same route as me a wee bit later. It was indeed a full depth slab release, 30M by 20M and about a meter deep on a ENE slope at about 800m allt. Thankfully it must have been a naturally triggered release. It was clearly visible from the main street in Callander. Mark has sent a pic and details to SAIS. With the Xmas holidays upon us and a lot of enthusiastic folk desperate for a wee play on snow, this is a timely reminder of the need to exercise constant vigilance when out in the Scottish hills.
